Hygge Hus
By Carole Erslev and Peter Woodbury
Our ‘Hygge Hus’ is inspired by a real house in Denmark in the village of Erslev, built by Carole Erslev’s ancestors. We simplified it but kept the traditional characteristics of yellow walls, half-timbered construction, white chimney, and a thatched roof. During our pandemic quarantine, we had to cancel our annual trip to Denmark to visit family and friends. Designing and building this house has made us homesick yet happy. For our first gingerbread house effort, we had to learn everything—how to make strong gingerbread, sturdy icing, pourable candy-glass windows, fondant thatch and timbers, and pipeable, perfectly yellow/gold walls. Thank you BSA for the inspiration!
