BSA Membership

The BSA is the largest chapter of the American Institute of Architects— the eastern Massachusetts professional association of approximately 5,000 public, professional and affiliate members. The BSA/AIA is a resource for professional and personal enrichment, a means for architects collectively to create an enhanced level of professional worth. The BSA’s mission is to provide programs and resources for everyone with an interest in design excellence and the built environment.

What is the right membership category for me?

Architects, allied professionals and laypeople everywhere in the world are invited to join the BSA in one of these membership categories:

AIA — I am an architect registered in one of the states in the U.S.

Associate — I hold a degree in architecture or another technical profession and am working toward licensure.

Affiliate — I do not hold a degree in architecture but share a special interest in the built environment as a colleague or enthusiast.

Student — I am a full-time student.

AIA

This membership is for architects registered in one of the states in the U.S. The AIA is a three-tier organization requiring membership in the national, state and local chapter. You may choose your chapter based on your home or work address. In Massachusetts there are three local chapters, the Boston Society of Architects/AIA (BSA), Central Massachusetts AIA (CMAIA) and Western Massachusetts AIA (WMAIA).  Each local chapter collects state dues.
