We empower the people of Boston to get active in architecture — whether as a future career, a creative and intellectual pursuit, or a powerful way to shape the future of their city.
Founded in 1971 and operating in recent years as the BSA Foundation, Architecture in Common is the public-facing nonprofit partner of the Boston Society of Architects. Through exhibitions, public programs, design education, and civic initiatives, we bring architecture into the real world so that people can get involved and see its impact in their lives firsthand.

Architecture is for everyone.Everyone deserves access to architecture, yet often it feels out of reach. Our events, exhibitions, and opportunities build the pathways that mean more people can get involved.
Real life is the guide.Architecture is only as strong as its connection to the people it serves. We center community voices and experience to push for design that responds to real conditions, not abstract ideas.
Design literacy builds agency.Design and architecture education is about more than building skills or preparing for a career, though it does both. Its real power lies in how it can give people agency — the understanding, confidence and tools to speak up, participate, and shape the future of their communities.
A future where architecture is valued and supported as a force for public good, giving shape to a more equitable, resilient, and livable Boston.
