STRUCTURAL DESIGN AT SGH 2017 Summer Seminar Series—Seminar 2: Strength, Stiffness, Sustainability: Timber Innovation in UMass Design Building

  • COST

Free and open to the public

Presented by Jeff Langlois, P.E. and Nancy Varney, Ph.D., P.E. of Simpson Gumpertz & Heger with Tom Chung of Leers Weinzapfel Associates Architects

Join us for the second seminar in our summer series, “Structural Design at SGH,” hosted by Simpson Gumpertz & Heger at Atlantic Wharf in Downtown Boston.

ABOUT THE JULY SEMINAR
The Design Building at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, creatively captures the strength of mass timber, concrete, and steel and exposes the structural elements for all to see. The structure combines the sustainability and performance benefits of cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels with the durability and stiffness of concrete, and also features gluelaminated (glulam) timber and steel beams in an innovative hybrid floor system. Other structural elements include glulam columns and braced frames, CLT shear walls, a system of three-dimensional glulam and steel rod trusses, and a full-story steel truss that supports a three-dimensional truss system and suspended CLT stairway.

For those who qualify, 1.0 LU/HSW is available.
