Architecture, Beauty, and Thermodynamics: A Conversation with Iñaki Ábalos

Free and open to the public

Iñaki Ábalos, chair of the department of architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, is a founding member of Ábalos + Sentkiewicz, an architecture practice with offices in Madrid, Boston, and Shanghai. The firm’s work synthesizes technical, formal, and disciplinary demands between architecture, the environment, landscape, and tectonics in an approach termed “thermodynamic beauty.” During this candid conversation, Ábalos will present several high-profile international commissions, and expand on three prototypes—the “mixed use,” the “house/palace,” and the “landform building”—using examples of their recent production for a high-speed train station and urban design for Logroño, the Leisure Center in Azuqueca, and the Museum of Zhuhai.
