Meet our panelists:

Mary B. Hall, P.E.
Senior Principal, GZA
Ms. Hall is a Senior Principal with GZA and has been with the firm for over 30 years. A geotechnical engineer by training, Hall specializes in evaluating geotechnical and environmental conditions and their potential impact on development and infrastructure projects for both private and public clients. She is a registered Professional Engineer in several states and earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Bucknell University and her Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from University of California at Berkeley. She is a past President of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Massachusetts where she was on the board for 10 years, an ACEC Fellow and a past Trustee of the Boston Groundwater Trust.

Michael P. Smith, P.E., Senior Project Manager, GZA
Mr. Smith is a senior project manager and geotechnical engineer with over 15 years’ experience in construction and consulting. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts and earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from University of Massachusetts Lowell. Since joining GZA in 2014, Mr. Smith has contributed to several of the firm’s largest development and infrastructure projects in the greater Boston area including Encore Boston Harbor, Route 128 Add-A-Lane and the Green Line Extension project.

Mario Mauro , Vice President, Treviicos
Mario Mauro is Vice President at Treviicos, a geotechnical contractor specialized in dam rehabilitation, soil improvement, slurry walls and deep foundations. He received his education in Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Turin, Italy, and has over thirty years of experience in the design, management and construction of geotechnical projects. He was the executive in charge of the construction of the slurry walls and load bearing elements at the Encore Boston Harbor Resort, a geotechnical contractor specialized in dam rehabilitation, soil improvement, slurry walls and deep foundations. He received his education in Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Turin, Italy, and has over thirty years of experience in the design, management and construction of geotechnical projects. He was the executive in charge of the construction of the slurry walls and load bearing elements at the Encore Boston Harbor Resort.

Joseph Coulson is a Project Manager for P.J. Spillane Company, Inc. who oversaw the waterproofing installation of multiple components used at the Encore Boston Harbor Resort.
P.J. Spillane Company, Inc. has practiced throughout New England since 1932, dealing with building maintenance, rehabilitation and waterproofing, including below grade systems.

Adam McCarthy and Bernard Rouillard of McNamara Salvia are the structural engineers for the Encore Boston Harbor Resort. They have brought their extensive experience to the multi-level subterranean structure supporting the tower and podium spaces of the project.

Dan Thomas was the project architect for Jacobs on the subterranean garage for the Encore Boston Harbor Resort, interpreting the architectural needs of the client and working with an extensive team of consultants to help the project succeed.
