(Virtual) Historic Resources: Ghost-Sign Busting Around Boston

Join our June HRC meeting to view and experience fabulous "ghost signs" located in and around Boston. Writer and ghost-sign-buster Dave Brigham will provide a show-and-tell of painted advertisements, discuss the types of businesses that used them during the heyday of outdoor sign painting (generally between 1880 and 1950) and share the simple methods employed to track down information about these signs. Dave will also present a brief history of the hand-painted sign industry and reflect on the current state of the business.

Dave Brigham is a writer and amateur photographer who runs "The Backside of America," a ten-year-old blog about the hidden history all around us. His keen eye and interest in history began with childhood coin and baseball card collecting and has evolved into documenting old buildings, railroad tracks, signs and more in the present day.
