A Mighty Storm: Flood Hazard Zones and Hurricane Prone Region Wind Loads

The International Building Code (IBC) and the International Existing Building Code (IEBC) both contain requirements for new construction and substantial alterations with regard to flood-resistance and wind-borne debris. This presentation will cover these requirements as well as some of the likely impending tools that municipalities will employ to address increased flooding from sea-level rise, more frequent and powerful storm events, and increasing annual precipitation. Massachusetts amendments to the model codes and the role of FEMA mapping in the permitting process will also be covered.
