The risk of current pandemics underscores the cascading damage to and fragility of the global retail landscape. This session explores the ongoing transformation of the retail sector from both design and operational perspectives, with specific attention on the near and long-term impact of COVID-19 on its business model and adaptation to the changing built environment. Through lecture and identified case studies, this session will explore two questions: How do we rethink the business model and design formality of the retail sector? And, what are the critical parameters applicable in building resilience for retail design, operation and management?
