Navigating DPH Licensing and Plan Review – The intersection of design and compliance

On our upcoming Tuesday, May 21 meeting the Design for Aging Knowledge Community will host long awaited guests that will share their point of view on the intersection between architecture and compliance.

Daniel Gent, Project Engineer, Plan Review Manager and Steve Davis, Licensure Unit Manager, from the Division of Health Care Facility Licensure and Certification, Massachusetts Department of Public Health. With the care atmosphere in Long Term Care as well as Acute Care being driven more and more by the residents’ / patients’ choice and input, and the impact of technology - to name a few - the department has implemented several new approaches and regulations that impact our daily work.

Daniel and Steve will share a presentation followed by a discussion about topics such as: Culture change and how the regulations address innovative care models, How do departments in different states collaborate and learn from each other, Updated regulations and the update cycle, what is the relationship between the State DPH and the federal government CMS, and more.

Daniel Gent - Architectural engineer- has been with DPH plan review since 1986 and became the, Plan Review Manager in 2002.
Stephen Davis is the Licensure Unit Manager with the Division of Health Care Facility Licensure and Certification, in the Bureau of Health Care Safety and Quality of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. His responsibilities include supervision of staff responsible for the licensure and inspection of health care facilities, architectural Plan Review and the Massachusetts Nurse Aide Registry.
