As part of the state-wide initiative to make communities more welcoming to people living with dementia and their caregivers, Elizabeth Chen – Secretary of the Executive Office of Elder Affairs has convened a Subcommittee to answer the question stated above. This subcommittee is charged with articulating what dementia-friendly design looks like so that specific criteria can be included in the Commonwealth’s procurement processes and communities across the state can include the criteria in their planning. As you know, dementia-friendly design has broader benefits not only for older adults but for everyone in the community.

Come join the Design for Aging committee to learn about this upcoming initiative and offer your thoughts on this engaging topic. The session will begin with a brief overview of the project by Patty Sullivan and James Fuccione. This will be followed by a discussion where participants can provide comments and suggestions to a draft document as the starting point for conversation about dementia-friendly design.
