EDI Network / On the Same Page: November Meeting

  • COST

Free and open to the public.

  • TYPE

    Knowledge Community

  • AUDIENCE

    Professionals

Inspired by the format of a book club but designed to include both print and other media such as movies and podcasts, On the Same Page seeks to bring individuals together for an open conversation. We acknowledge that much remains to be learned about inequities and systemic injustices and propose that we will benefit from exploring these topics with each other.
For our next meeting at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2021, please feel free to read/view/listen to some or all of the following material:
Book: The Well-Tempered City: What Modern Science, Ancient Civilizations, and Human Nature Teach Us About the Future of Urban Life by Jonathan F. P. Rose (Harper Wave, 2016, 2nd ed. 2017). (480 pages)
Video: ULI: The Well-Tempered City and the Future of Urban Life https://youtu.be/uh1s1bGXv48 (54 min)
Podcast: IREI Author Spotlight: The “Well-tempered” Cities of the Future (09/2016) https://irei.com/video-and-podcast/author-spotlight-the-well-tempered-cities-of-the-future-1/ (38 min)
Author Blog: https://www.welltemperedcity.com/blog/
In addition, we have compiled the book list below for our upcoming meetings. We welcome print and other media suggestions from participants – please bring suggestions to our August meeting or send them to the co-chairs (contact information below). As a reminder, please consider supporting your local bookstore, or purchase from sites such as indiebound.org or bookshop.org. Before each meeting, we will share accompanying audio/video materials. Primary selections for the next several meetings are as follows:
• James Baldwin, The Fire Next Time (for January 2022)
• Deirdre Mask, The Address Book: What Street Addresses Reveal about Identity, Race, Wealth, and Power (for March 2022)
• Judith Heumann and Kristen Joiner, Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist (for May 2022)
