The Design + Practice Exchange (DPE) is a one-and-a-half-day symposium of compelling conversations and design presentations centering on the voices of women in architecture. The Women in Architecture Committee of AIA New York and the Boston Society for Architecture Women in Design are co-hosting this event with the theme “Navigating the [Post] Pandemic Terrain.”
The Coronavirus pandemic has changed the design field dramatically. Our practices have been directly impacted, from workplace wellness to economics to changing design criteria, forcing us to evolve in ways we could not have foreseen. The DPE will reflect on lessons learned from the pandemic experience and explore ideas for more equitable, resilient, socially, and environmentally sustainable future practices.
The morning session on Day-1 features notable women leaders in a keynote presentation, a design panel, and a conversation reflecting the thematic topic - followed by an afternoon of roundtable discussions centered on the four pillars of Design & Leadership, Workplace Culture, Professional Practice & Development, and Advocacy & Activism.
Day-2 features a walking tour around Manhattan to view and learn about women-designed projects.
The goal of the DPE is to advance and promote women leaders of all racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds in architecture and the allied design and building industries. The event is open to people of all gender identities.
