The American House: Designing and Building Houses in the Digital Age at Harvard University

Computer programs have been around for only a few decades, but their impact on the design and construction of houses has been far reaching. Instead of a single hand-drawn perspective, computers can now generate a complete fly-round, inside and out, often early in the design process. But beyond their efficacy, have these CAD programs actually made the design process or building any better? To have a successful practice, it’s now critical to understand not just the technology but also the potential drag it may have on the creative process.
