As chairs of the AIA Massachusetts Government Affairs Committee (GAC), we would like to invite all interested members to join us for an update on the legislative and regulatory issues that could have an impact on the way we practice architecture here in Massachusetts.

This month, our special guest speaker is 14th Middlesex state Representative Tami Gouveia (D). Specifically, via the recently enacted climate roadmap bill (SB 9), we will discuss with the Representative role in reshaping the state Board of Building Regulations and Standards; her two bills that would, respectively, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by permitting local option ordinances for the construction of all-electric buildings and homes and establishing a pathway to net-zero buildings; and her thoughts as to how our members can better become a resource to both she and the Legislature.

As the sole committee of the Massachusetts chapter of AIA, the GAC’s mission is to actively participate in the legislative and regulatory process and encourage public advocacy.
