Healthcare Facilities: Emerging Healthcare Designer Forum (Hybrid)

Seven emerging designers from different firms will present their experiences working on healthcare projects. This will be an opportunity to share, learn and connect.

Project Description: YNHH SRC Adams Neuroscience Center & Bed Tower is a 500k+ square foot neuroscience research and care facility in New Haven, CT. It is a renovation + new construction project that consists of 2 patient bed towers (Sherman and McGivney) which share a common podium (levels 1-3) that houses a new entrance and main lobby, neuro & radiology spaces on the 2nd floor, and a caregiver space on the 3rd floor. The bed floors will include 201 inpatient beds where patients will receive innovative care for a variety of movement and neurological disorders.

Project Description: UMass Memorial Health's New Inpatient Building is an adaptive reuse and expansion of an existing skilled nursing facility. The new building will provide additional inpatient bed capacity for UMMMC and central Massachusetts, serving a part of the state that was in critical need of beds throughout the pandemic. The new pavilion serves as a campus expansion of the University Hospital at the UMass Chan campus in Worcester, MA.

Project Description: Norwood Hospital is a full hospital replacement following the emergency closure of the existing facility due to a flood in 2020. The 130-bed facility includes emergency services, diagnostic imaging, surgery and procedural space, M/S and ICU inpatient units and key outpatient facilities.

Ellie Thomas Assoc. AIA - Designer / Healthcare Planner, Payette

Project Description: Yale New Haven Health’s Westerly Hospital is a lively hospital in a coastal town looking to undergo major upgrades to their existing campus. This project includes renovations to their Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency Services, and Surgical Services departments as well as their public lobby and dining areas. A revamped entry canopy and landscape design focuses on giving the hospital a new identity with a welcoming front porch and a secluded courtyard oasis, elements that give back to the community at Westerly.

Miguel Roman, LEED BD+C - Architectural Designer, SmithGroup

Project Description: Brigham and Women's Hospital is converting two administrative floors in their Shapiro Building to Inpatient use. The modeled developed focuses on creating a standardized same-handed patient room and collaborative clinical work environment.

Neeti Menon, WELL AP - Designer, NBBJ

Project Description: Sturdy Health- Medical Office Building (MOB) is a three-story, 63,000 sf building that will consolidate and expand several outpatient medical services for the community-based Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. Connected by a bridge to the main hospital, this new building co-locates infusion and pain management clinics from the main campus with current off-campus clinics. Efficiency of plan and form, together with articulate detailing create flexible spaces for these diverse specialty practices, while prioritizing staff and patient experience.
