Event Description

This month we are excited to have presentations of recent placemaking and tactical urbanism projects from several practitioners:

Parke MacDowell, AIA | Associate Principal & Director of Fabrication, Payette
Parke leads many of Payette’s pro bono initiatives, combining civic activism, management skill and superb design. These inspiring projects—LynnLights, WaSH, FoLD, BeND, Dancing Dragon, Winthrop Community Garden, Nashua Riverwalk and more—demonstrate the power of design to positively shape communities and have been recognized with multiple awards. Since 2016, Parke and Payette have partnered with Beyond Walls, a non-profit placemaking agency that uses a creative lens to address community needs.

Luis Ricardo, R.A | Founder, llLAb
Hanxiao Liu, R.A | Founder, llLAb
llLAb is a design studio originated in Stuttgart, Germany, based in Shanghai and Porto operating within the fields of architecture, design, art, urbanism, research and development. The studio’s work focuses on using design as a tool to improve social and cultural life through various scales, from urban projects to micro-architecture or installations. The principals are driven by an experimental and playful approach that leads to conceptually rigorous and well-executed design projects, including last year’s Bamboo Cloud project in New York City.

Rob Barella | Associate, Kyle Zick Landscape Architecture
Rob Barella is a Landscape Architect and Associate at KZLA in Boston, MA. KZLA provides design experience in historic sites, campuses, museums, streetscapes, parks, playgrounds, ecologically-sensitive areas, and more. Rob joined KZLA in 2015 and has since worked on a wide range of projects including passive parks, playgrounds, master plans, parklets, and other forms of tactical urbanism. Outside of work, Rob has worked on several pop-up projects with the City of Boston Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics, The Trustees, and the Fenway Garden Society.
