The seminar will provide an in-depth review of the special provisions for podium building construction in Chapter 5 of the IBC. The podium construction concept can be applied during design as a useful alternative to the traditional height and area limitations of the code. The seminar will identify design and planning scenarios where the podium construction method can be applied to expand the traditional allowable height of a building which allows greater real estate available for purchase or rent. The seminar will evaluate multiple occupancy types as well as mixed use facilities. It will also illustrate the benefits of upcoming code changes that will allow even greater flexibility and building heights using the podium concept.
