Building science, energy codes and our understanding of the factors that can affect building sustainability, human health & safety and the environment that we live in have been changing rapidly in recent years. This short presentation, which will be focused on residential buildings, will cover some of the basics on building science, the latest on Massachusetts Energy Codes (i.e., Stretch Code and recent IECC), and the required steps for complying with the MA code.

In addition, we will cover some of the best options and practices seen in the field related to the water management, insulation, windows, HVAC and ventilation. We also say a few words about the MassSave incentive program available for both the new construction and Renovation and Addition (R&A) projects.

Presenter
Bijan KHosraviani, Ph.D.

Bijan is the founder and principal of A9 Green / Total Green Energy Solution, LLC, an energy consulting firm which helps its clients to build better homes, reduce their construction cost, and make their projects more energy-efficient.

After working for over 15 years in the high-tech industry of Silicon Valley, Bijan moved to Boston and joined the energy industry in 2006. Since then, his primary focus and goal have been on how we can create better buildings (or improve existing ones) and make them more sustainable and energy-efficient.

Using the latest knowledge in the building science and technology, Bijan and his colleagues have helped homeowners, builders, architects and developers with thousands of projects in more than 95 towns and cities in MA over the past decade. He believes all of us can make small steps toward helping the world be a better place to live if we have the right knowledge and motivation; and by doing so, we can help ourselves and the environment at the same time.
