Building Enclosure Council: The Pathway to Zero Energy Buildings

Zero Energy Buildings have come to the forefront of the “next thing” in commercial building energy performance. Questions as to technical viability and costs are seen as barriers to even producing pilots of these buildings. This interactive discussion will look at what they are and what is needed to change the paradigm of buildings from energy consumers to energy producers, starting with the building envelope. Case studies and some of the details of the new Advanced Energy Design Guides from ASHRAE/AIA/USGBC/IES will be presented. Many of the strategies can be used on existing buildings and new construction to achieve deep energy savings.
