Event Description
Located on the ground floor of Harvard's state-of-the-art Science and Engineering Complex, the REEF (Reimagining Experiential Education & Fabrication) Makerspace provides Harvard University students, staff, and faculty with a dynamic platform for hands-on learning. Featuring an array of shops, machines, and workbenches spanning over 2,000 square feet, with dedicated staff versed in industry practice, the REEF welcomes first-time makers and seasoned, world-class researchers to pursue whatever interests them. By building a culture around design and fabrication inclusivity, no project is too small, and every user is able to gain a unique developmental experience.
Joe Kile, REEF Makerspace Manager, will discuss his experience working in labs and shops across the biomedical, footwear, and architecture industries. He will share how his background has shaped his approach to teaching others about the design process—whether it's for a gift, a senior thesis, or research.
