Infra\tecture: Tunnel Vision—Tunneling Technology and Infrastructure (Part 1)

Please join the American Planning Association Massachusetts Chapter (APA MA) Transportation Committee and the Boston Society of Architects (BSA) Infra\tecture Knowledge Community for a special two-part co-sponsored event exploring tunnel infrastructure on the evening of Wednesday October 23rd.
Part one of the event is a tour of an abandoned MBTA tunnel below City Hall Plaza with City of Boston Archaeologist, Joe Bagley. The tour will explore
a usually inaccessible 200 feet of tunnel that once connected Scollay Square Station to Adams Square Station. The tunnel tour will begin at 4:30 pm, meeting outside of the Starbuck’s at City Hall Plaza (63-65 Court Street) in front of the Steaming Kettle. This part of the event requires a $10 registration fee to cover the cost of the required police detail.

Part two of the event will explore tunneling technologies and infrastructure considerations with Eden Almog-Goldreich, Leader of Geotechnics and Tunneling at Arup. Eden will speak on the topic of debunking common misconceptions in tunneling and reflect on his experiences with notable tunnel projects around the globe. This part of the event is free and open to the public. Guests may attend both or either parts of the event. A group will walk from the first part to the second part together.
