Designing Glazed Facades with Winter Comfort in Mind

Join COTE and presenter Alejandra Menchaca, PhD, to learn about the new Glazing and Winter Comfort web tool, designed to assist architects and engineers in informing the selection of glazing geometry and performance to minimize occupant thermal discomfort in the winter. The talk will cover the research behind why we feel cold when being close to a window in the winter, and how this discomfort relates to window U-value, glazing geometry and environmental conditions. A demonstration of the tool, which is publicly available online, will highlight how teams can identify early in the design process which glazing parameters can contribute to eliminate the need for perimeter heating. Finally, presenters will describe the in-house research process that led to the development of the tool.

For those who qualify, 1.5 LU/HSWs are available.
