Event Description

In September 2024, Bill H5033 directed the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to develop new guidelines for Small House nursing homes, which are facilities residences for no more than 14 residents that are designed to look and feel like a home. This will be a major change to the state regulations 105 CMR 150.00: Standards for long-term care facilities, which currently do not include any provisions for small house nursing homes.

This initiative aims to facilitate the design and operations of a resident directed care environment based on the notion of Home. The new regulations will be focused on supporting resident dignity and well-being, and address many aspects such as staffing, safety, and resident care to ensure these small homes meet high standards.

Please join the Design for Aging Knowledge Community for a listening and scoping session with Marita Callahan and Brittany Christian at the Department of Public Health who are leading this effort. This session is open to all designers, operators and regulators. This information gathered during this session will be essential in shaping the future of long-term care in Massachusetts.
