High Performance Schools in Greater Boston
Building large, municipal buildings on tight urban sites to near net zero or passive house standards is not easy. Perkins Eastman architect Jana Silsby AIA and builder/activist Jonathan Kantar will share their experiences in working with communities to design and build high performance schools. Jana was the project architect on the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School in Cambridge. Jonathan serves as a volunteer on the Newton Design Review Committee which has participated in the design of four elementary schools in the City of Newton. In addition to commenting on some of the technical characteristics and complexities of these buildings, they will facilitate a discussion of the challenges of working with the community and making net zero a project goal.
For those who qualify, 1.5 LUs are available.
