This is a brief report on codes and regulatory activities including the status of pending legislation and Building Code / regulatory changes of interest to Owners, Developers, Architects, and Engineers. Topics include the status of Codes by Boards that oversee areas of building construction and coordination of codes (BCCC).

Multifamily Buildings: Beyond the Basics of the Building Code

For this opening session of the 2018 Codes Committee’s annual cycle of code presentations, Eric Monplaisir of TERP Consulting Engineers will focus on all things multifamily relating to fire and life safety code compliance.

Eric will explore as-of-right compliance strategies as well as alternative methods that include, but are not limited to, podium construction, fire-resistance ratings, sprinkler protection, accessibility, occupancy separation, NPFA 285, and roof decks. Chosen topics were based on industry interest and actual project experience. Eric will present case studies to illustrate the intent of the code.
