Building Codes: Comparing American and Overseas Codes and Code Applications

This month’s codes committee meeting features Brian Jay Meacham, Associate Professor of Fire Protection Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Jeff Tubbs, PE, a Principal with Arup, where he serves as a multidisciplinary Project Director and Boston Fire Group Leader.

This presentation will explore code developments worldwide from the perspective of the IRCC (Inter-Jurisdictional Regulatory Collaboration Committee) and from the perspective of applying a variety codes to real projects overseas. Professor Meacham, an active member of the IRCC for many years, has traveled around the globe to participate in code developments to address life and fire safety, technology changes, and environmental challenges.

Jeff Tubbs, an annual presenter to the Codes Committee, travels widely and advises on demanding projects as far as Macau, Qatar, and Brazil.

This month's meeting will also include a report on codes and regulatory activities including the status of regulatory changes under review by the Governor's Office under Exec Order 562. Featured speakers: John Nunnari, Exec Dir/AIA MA, and Felix Zemel, Technical Dir, Department of Public Safety.
