Join us for a screening of 'Women in Architecture', a documentary created by Emma Dessouroux at MoMoWo, the 2018 international conference in Torino, Italy, focusing on “Women’s Creativity since the Modern Movement 1918-2018.” The film gathers frank conversations with international women in design – from researchers to practitioners – highlighting ongoing challenges and opportunities for changing the status quo of women in architecture, especially with cultural movements such as #metoo. What are past and current battles for women in architecture around the world? Has visibility increased in books, in academia, on reference sites, and in international awards?
Featured profiles include Francesca Perani (Architect and Curtaor of Architette, Italy), Eliana Perotti (Senior researcher at ETH Zurich, Switzerland), Patricia Santos Pedrosa (President of Mulheres na Aruitectura, Portugal), Lori Brown (Co-founder ArchiteXX, Professor at Syracuse University, USA) and Andrea Leers and Jane Weinzapfel (Founders of Leers Weinzapfel Associates, USA). The screening will be followed with a discussion with Emma Dessouroux and Andrea Leers, FAIA.
MISTER EMMA (Emma Dessouroux) has long traveled to festivals, parties, and events to meet artists and showcase their talents through offbeat video interviews. His work captures stories - sometimes tender and funny, sometimes offbeat - career paths, and urban works. With the creation of ARCHI URBAIN in 2006, Mister Emma focused on architecture and urban planning, from an initial interest in contemporary architecture in Brussels to a more global perspective on 1) the challenges facing cities in the face of climate change and 2) the challenges of women in architecture. His documentaries offer a relevant and personal look on these topics. In 2014, he launched CAVIAR.ARCHI platform to give a voice to the men and women who build and reinvent our living environment.
