Event Description

Join the BSA Housing Committee as we explore the impact of the London Housing Design Guide on regulation and policy in the UK; and how those lessons can translate to Boston.

Alex Ely, Founding Partner at Mae, led the initial development of the LHDG. He will talk about its origins and how housing in the city continues to be shaped by its newest iteration. Karl Heckmaev from the Boston Mayor’s Office of Housing will talk about its own design guide for affordable projects, and give context to incoming Boston guides as well. There will be presentations, and then a panel discussion. This will be a virtual event with CU credits.

"The London Mayor's London Housing Design Guide has arguably been the single most influential piece of design for housing in the capital so far this century."

—Finn Williams Regeneration Area Manager GLA

It [the London Housing Design Guide] is quietly radical. It demonstrates that it is still possible for public authorities to direct city building for the better.

—Rowan Moore, Slow Burn City
