DLR Group | Tsoi Kobus Design creates award-winning environments for science and technology, healthcare, higher education, and commercial development clients. Our design approach advances knowledge discovery and combines advanced technology with humane environments. We believe design excellence is measured by client success and the path to delivering solutions begins with listening and understanding their unique challenges, cultures, and missions.
In our architectural practice we utilize physical model making at all phases of the design process. Harnessing the power of digital fabrication for its speed, precision & versatility we can convey information about our ideas in various ways. Given the unique nature of our work, sometimes our models are constructed to foster conversations around a single model. Other times, auxiliary models are constructed in tandem and displayed alongside one another to highlight different components of our designs. At DLR Group | Tsoi Kobus Design we are constantly exploring new ways to tell the story of our designs via physical models. Our open shop model encourages all designers to harness the power of model making to explore ideas and push their designs further.
This session will demonstrate how we utilize simple digital fabrication technology and parametric software to break down complex healthcare projects into simple components. These physical prototypes can be assembled to convey large amounts of information at a small architectural scale. Participants will learn about the practical knowledge required to deconstruct large digital models, optimize their model making workflow, and explore creative ways to utilize this technology for architectural design solutions.
