Welcome Home - the Transformation of a Traditional Nursing Home

Join the Design for Aging Committee in January for “Welcome Home” - an exploration of affordability in long term care, deinstitutionalization of health care environments, and an answer to the question “what can be done with those dreadful old nursing homes?”

Diane Dooley AIA and Bill Lassetter of DiMella Shaffer will present a case study of the renovation of the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home. Using lessons learned from the organization’s award-winning sister facility, the Leonard Florence Center for Living urban GreenHouse® community, this major renovation incorporates essential components of the GreenHouse® concept and transforms the traditional 30 year old legacy nursing facility into residential environments that support and enhance the quality life of residents.
