A COLLABORATIVE EVENT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH WOMXN IN DESIGN BOSTON

PAYETTE elevates its design process with in-house fabrication of both final pieces and prototypes, ranging from model scale to 1:1 fully immersive rooms. Since 2017, six different healthcare projects have used full sized mock-ups of patient rooms to inform their design decisions. These mockups are atypical from a conventional healthcare mock-up built by a general contractor – they are instead built by the designers, much earlier in the design process, promoting quicker feedback and iteration.

The latest and largest of these mock-ups involved over 130 clinicians, staff, and patients, who collaborated to iterate the design through immersive experiences. By experiencing full-scale environments, participants could identify design challenges that may be overlooked in traditional drawings or 3D renders. Combined with an interactive VR mock-up, these innovative tools foster deeper engagement and productive dialogue between designers and healthcare professionals.
