Learning from the HAIO Patient Room Prototype
Multiple Boston architectural firms participated in the patient room challenge sponsored by HAIO to develop designs for a patient room that will reduce hospital associated infections. Seven of the firms then collaborated to develop a prototype inpatient room at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, designed expressly for infection prevention, that will be completed this month.
Paula Wright, RN, BSN, CIC, Project Manager, Infection Control Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital will set the stage for understanding the challenges to reducing infections. Sarah Markovitz AIA, Principal at NBBJ will review strategies, materials, and technologies now available to be deployed. Bob Peterson AIA, Principal at TRO will describe the strategies in terms of microbe suppression and ease of cleanability that have been incorporated into the prototype room.
For those who qualify, 1.5 LU/HSWs are available.
