This is a brief report on codes and regulatory activities including the status of pending legislation and Building Code / regulatory changes of interest to Owners, Developers, Architects, and Engineers. Topics include the status of Codes by Boards that oversee areas of building construction and coordination of codes (BCCC).

Exterior Wall Assemblies: Complying with the 9th Edition of the MSBC and Avoiding Problems

The 9th Edition of the Massachusetts State Building Code adopts the 2015 IBC and IEC with some amendments for exterior wall assemblies. Len Anastasi will discuss the applicable requirements and critique them for their shortcomings. He will examine potential problems stemming from complying with the “ letter “ of the code and offer some solutions to these problems. Len will also run live hygrothermal analyses to show why the assemblies either will or have experienced problems. Len will review basic building science and physics to help guide attendees in avoiding potential problems.
