Food for Free art by Innosanto Nagara
Through direct service (bringing food to directly to students, seniors, and others most at risk of hunger) and food rescue & transportation (collecting healthy, fresh food and delivering it to local food programs), Food For Free improves access to healthy food. Based in Cambridge since the 1980s, Food for Free has worked closely with both local nonprofits and hundreds of community members and volunteers.
Food insecurity has skyrocketed since the pandemic begun. After landing a new, larger space in the form of a 12,000 square foot distribution center in Somerville, Food for Free sought to expand dramatically to provide services that are now more vital than ever.
With assistance from Food for Free's experienced program and logistics team and supporters in the community, the C+CD team partnered with Food for Free to provide space planning and assistance with design. The project will enable Food for Free to leverage more volunteers, expand its programming, and source more donations.

Food For Free improves access to healthy food within our community by rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste and creating new distribution channels to under-served populations with an emphasis on utilizing school systems to reach those in need.
