BSA; Richard Fitzgerald Hon BSA; Elizabeth Padjen FAIA; Wilson Pollack FAIA; Gretchen Rabinkin AIA.Richard Fitzgerald Hon. BSA was executive director of the Boston Society of Architects/AIA from 1984 through 2008. His leadership, collegiality, and achievements have been well-documented throughout this 150th anniversary year.Richard edited nearly 200 issues of the ChapterLetter, a printed newsletter that was the BSA's primary member communication tool before de rigouer email and architects.org. In each, he expressed witty notions about the chapter and its membership that were printed in crisp knots of tiny type that one must take a moment to find. When recently invited to contribute to these sesquicentienial Reflections, Richard warmed to the idea of regifting those ChapterLetter bons mots to the membership. They capture his keen observational wit and facility with language. Together, they almost create a narrative arc. They absolutely capture a spirit of time and community and represent pre-Twitter snippets from a savvy organizational director famously adept at teasing out the best in others and encouraging them to shine.Enjoy the nips below, organized by ChapterLetter publication date.
