In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Canstruction Boston looked at how they could continue to benefit the MVFB while keeping people safe and socially distant. With this balance in mind, Canstruction Boston pivoted to a virtual design competition in 2020.
Seventeen teams entered the design competition this year, submitting renderings, sketches, and videos to be considered for the following awards:
Best Concept
Recognizes the design that creates a lasting impression on the judges, showing creativity and attention to detail.
"The Show Will Go On," designed by Wilson Butler Architects (5,000 cans)
Best “Use of Labels”
Recognizes the design that uses “labels” to create details that enhance the overall appearance.
"Mulan," designed by Dimeo Construction Company (2,763 cans)
People’s Choice
Recognizes the design that gets the most Likes on Facebook during the window of voting.
"We're not in CANsas anymore," designed by Margulies Perruzzi (3,988 cans)
Director’s Favorite
Recognizes the design that the Director identifies as their favorite.
"Zooming in to Fight Hunger," designed by Arrowstreet (5,964 cans)
Honorable Mention
Recognizes the design(s) that the judges believe deserve(s) recognition but did not receive another award. This category will be awarded at the judges’ discretion.
"Leo the Lion," designed by Ann Beha Architects (3,821 cans)
"A Night At The Drive-In," designed by Dore + Whittier Architects (3565 cans)
"Anyone CAN Cook," designed by Northeastern University Chi Epsilon (1,090 cans)
Social Media Soup-er Star
Recognizes the team that posted the highest number of Canstruction related Instagram posts, as defined by the competition rules shared separately with participating teams.
Fundraising Soup-er Star
Recognizes the team that raises the most money for the Merrimack Valley Food Bank.
