The American Institute of Architects (AIA) this week named five BSA members as AIA Fellows, its highest membership honor, for their exceptional work and contributions to architecture and society. Andrea Love FAIA, Justin Crane FAIA, Diana Nicklaus FAIA, Ted Touloukian FAIA, and Angela Ward Hyatt FAIA were selected for membership in the AIA College of Fellows, an award bestowed upon only three percent of AIA members.

Last week, leaders from AIA Chapters across the US visited their respective congressional delegations in Washington, DC, to advocate for issues important to architects, including the profession’s critical work on climate and equity, as well as two architecture-related bills that are under consideration. AIA Massachusetts leadership visited staff for Senators Warren and Markey, as well as staff from Representatives Trahan, Neal, Moulton, McGovern, Keating, Lynch, and Democratic Whip Katherine Clark’s offices.

Concrete accounts for 11 percent of total global carbon emissions. The Boston chapter of the Carbon Leadership Forum (CLF) is a BSA Knowledge Community that works on issues of embodied carbon in the built environment. With the help of a grant from the Jampart Charitable Trust, the group is now working on a stakeholder engagement series that will identify obstacles and opportunities for adopting low-carbon concrete.

With all the RFI submissions in, the next step is evaluating the projects to determine which ones the BSA will advance.

The BSA received 31 submissions, spanning a wide range in substance and approach.
