The BSA asked current candidates running in the 2025 Boston Mayoral Election to answer eight questions regarding the city's built environment. See their responses and learn about their priorities.

This week, a conference room at the BSA was host to a mix of individuals from Boston and beyond. In attendance at this meeting of the Commonwealth Model Workshop, both virtually and in-person, were BSA staff, architects, city officials, community center leaders, developers, and a lawyer.

An effort spearheaded by a partnership between the BSA and the Civic Action Project has resulted in a new policy that will ask developers to disclose who they’re working with on major real estate projects, as part of an effort to diversify the city’s largely white and male development industry. “A Quarter More: Exploring Density in Metro Boston” is the theme of this year’s workshop. Teams of design professionals have joined up with municipal partners in Boston, Cambridge, and Everett to study specific focus areas in these cities and propose ideas for how to make more space for living and working, as Greater Boston’s population is quickly rising. To commemorate the midpoint of the workshop, which began in late March, the teams gathered at the Boston Society for Architecture to present their work so far.

The Boston Society of Architecture and the Boston Society of Landscape Architects created a program to match business owners in Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston with architects and landscape architects to create simple, scaled, permit-ready outdoor seating plans to be implemented when businesses were allowed to reopen for outdoor dining this spring.
