The Boston Society for Architecture (BSA), MakeTank and MKR|MGR are excited to announce a new community design opportunity associated with the BSA's annual Design Awards Program. Throughout the month of December, we are running an open competition for the design of the physical award trophy, known as the Hobson Award. The winner of the competition will have their design fabricated and shipped to each Design Award recipient ahead of the annual BSA Awards Gala. All design submissions are due by December 23, 2020.

The BSA is proud to continue our long-term partnership with Apprentice Learning to bring hands-on design to Boston students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This week wraps up the fall workshop series with Boston eighth graders, where they worked at a variety of scales understanding the impact of design on the built environment.

As 2020 BSA/AIA President Natasha Espada AIA passed the gavel to 2021 President Gregory Minott AIA, the BSA reflects back on the work accomplished in 2020 toward our goal of making Boston a more equitable and architecturally-vibrant city and region.

The 2021 issue of the Homeowner's Project Handbook is back with greater opportunities than ever before! The handbook provides homeowners with everything they could need from inspiration, financial worksheets and insightful articles, to the only official directory of licensed AIA architects in Massachusetts.

As we say goodbye to 2020, the BSA wants to thank our dedicated board members and committee chairs who will be ending their terms. We also want to take a moment to recognize and congratulate newly licensed BSA member architects.

The Boston Society for Architecture (BSA) is pleased to share that the Rotch Travelling Scholarship, the longest-running scholarship of its kind in the United States, will continue in 2021—it will just look a little different.

As the BSA looks ahead to 2021, the BSA/AIA Board has made recommendations for changes to the Chapter's bylaws that will modernize governance. The BSA membership will vote on the bylaws during a special meeting on January 6, 2021.
